Summary
Elvis can output arbitrary texts as speech. The texts can be dynamic, e.g. generated in a calculation, event processing or reporting. The prerequisite for speech output is a TTS engine (TTS = TextToSpeech) and at least one language (Language Add-On). All necessary parts can be obtained free of charge via the Internet.
Details
The following description applies to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. In Windows Vista, all the prerequisites are already present.
Note that you must be logged in to your PC with administrator privileges to install/register software.
First, install Microsoft Reader 2.0 (approx. 3.5 MB) in the desired language version (e.g. MSReaderSetupGer.exe for german).
Secondly, install the associated text-to-speech component (approx. 6 MB), for german i.e. ReaderTTSInstallGER.exe.
Finally, you can select one of the German voices “LH Anna” or “LH Stefan” in the Control Panel under Voice Input/Output.
