Question
I want to access the Elvis server via the Internet. How can I do this?
Answer
The Elvis operator station and the Elvis server communicate using the DCOM protocol.
In principle, it is also possible to use this protocol via Internet connections (see e.g. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dndcom/html/cis.asp). However, we do not recommend this method for security reasons: there have been a number of security problems with the DCOM service in the past. In our opinion, it is therefore best to deactivate it for Internet connections.
The alternative, if the Elvis control station is to be used, is to configure a VPN. This allows you to access the process server as if it were on the LAN. The data is encrypted by the Internet and securely tunneled.
Another option would be to install a web server with Elvis Web. Access is then via HTTP with a normal web browser.
