ETS4 users sometimes report performance issues with ETS4, e.g. a few minutes to open a panel. In this article, we collect known causes and ways to fix such problems.
Known causes
Virus scanner slows down SQL Server
It is possible that the file accesses of the SQL Server are slowed down by a virus scanner. Workaround: add the sqlservr.exe process and/or files with the extensions *.mdf and *.ldf to the exception list.
Problems with the Internet connection
The ETS checks for updates in the background. If this fails, e.g. because proxy authentication fails, it can slow down the start of the ETS.
Workaround: try to turn off automatic update checks
Incompatibilities with other programs
There are reports of performance losses of the ETS4 when the program “PDF-XChange Viewer” is running at the same time.

Database change
It has been reported that the following steps can lead to a performance improvement:
- Open ETS
- open another database
- Open any project in the database
- back to the original database
- Open project
